Our client is currently seeking to recruit a punch press setter/operator for the safe set up and operation of automated Amada EM turret punches and laser combination machine (laser optional skill set). Someone must have a minimum of 3-4 years’ previous experience as turret punch press setter/operator. Experience with other brands of turret punches will also be considered, but Amada would be desirable. You will also need to be extremely responsible, reliable and be an excellent team player and communicator with best practise in mind to be considered for this post. The successful candidate will be working with heavily automated machines that run in a 24hour production environment. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high standard of engineering aptitude following on with the right focus on quality. You will also be able to work on their own initiative from technical drawings and production schedules. You must also be flexible within the factory and willing to undertake other engineering duties to fit production demands.
High standards of timekeeping and attendance are essential.
In-house training will be provided on our specific product related technicalities and automated equipment where required.
The ideal candidate will be preferably time served in mechanical engineering or equivalent NVQ, but this is not an essential requirement if coming from a long-established sheet metal environment.
Previous experience of Radan software (Desirable)
The successful applicants for interview stage will be required to complete machine/tooling setting and operating test.
The following skills and experience are required if you are to be considered for the position of Punch Press Operator:
Recent and broad experience using CNC machine tools
Must be knowledgeable and experienced with CNC programming, setting and operating Amada CNC Turret Punching Machines
Be familiar with CNC machines and can program parts yourself, set jobs and set tools
Any other sheet metal experience would be an advantage
Keeps work areas clean and safe
Select correct punches and dies based on material thickness and type
Set up tooling, load programs, set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment
Determine if tools are undamaged and in safe condition after use
Produce quality parts according to customer drawings and specifications
Quality Control parts with tools such as callipers and tape measures to ensure tolerances are held according to customer drawings and specifications – First off inspections
Knowledge of reading and interpreting Engineering Drawings
Maintaining and sharpening tooling
Undertaking regular daily and weekly preventative maintenance on the machines
Work in a fast paced environment with fast changing priorities
BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering
NVQ 3 in Mechanical Engineering
HNC in Engineering would be desirable

Hours of work:
Day Shift – Monday – Thursday, 07.30 – 16.30, Friday 07.30 – 14.00
Night Shift – Monday – Thursday, 16.30 – 02.00, Friday 14.00 – 18.00
Shift allowance £20 per night
Holiday Entitlement – 28 days (incl: bank holidays)
